US DATA REACT: BNP says "October's preliminary Markit PMI came in at 54.0 (versus 53.1 in September), beating expectations for a decline, but well below levels we saw this time last year. On an ISM adjusted basis, the measure improved by 1.2 points from September's print on the back of solid improvements in all sub-indices (new orders and employment led with 1.6-point and 1.5-point improvements, respectively."

Hillary Clinton just had the best 10 days of her campaign - The Washington Post

The way she kept her cool for 11 hours as the Republicans on the eighth Benghazi committee spewed nonsense based on the most bizarre conspiracy theories is going to be legendary. Even Hillary-haters on the lefty sites were in awe. Trump can't even handle 2 1/2 hours in a relatively friendly debate.

Single-family starts, by contrast, were up 0.3%. Yep, it's a new paradigm.

Anybody around here watch that circus? Were there any serious questions like:

The US has several hundred of these combined office and residential buildings (embassies and consulates) scattered around the world in all sorts of countries. Is it possible to protect them against a serious armed attack by an organized group? Should we structure them differently so we can secure at least some of our people better?

There is nothing for Hillary to lie about. This has been investigated 8 times by Congress, and it's just confirmed the Administration story - which is exactly what you would have expected, as the administration story is the only way it could have happened. That the righties would even imagine that Obama or Hillary would interfere with defending a State Department location shows how delusional they are.

Geographic ignorance on the right was on display with the Congressman complaining she didn't scramble a rapid response team - in Kansas. And this guy is in Congress!

Anybody around here watch that circus? Were there any serious questions like:

Duckworth asked some. Otherwise, no. But truthfully, after 8 investigations, there aren't really any good questions left to ask. I doubt Duckworth asked anything that hadn't been asked before.

That is what struck me out of the whole thing, the irony is that this hearing only succeeded in giving her a chance to look, well, presidential...

From the WaPo Comments:
Clinton, H., just admitted publicly that at the time she met the caskets and the families of the four dead Americans she lied to them and to the public. As she was spinning the lie that the Benghazi raid was caused by a video to families and our willfully ignorant public to enhance the narrative that Obama had beaten terrorism, she privately was telling family and insiders that terrorists were responsible. Her testimony yesterday will be juxtaposed by her previous public statements on Benghazi ad infinitum ad nauseum throughout the 2016 campaign. What difference could this possibly make? She's a damn liar.

2012 Benghazi attack - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I dont see HRC oozing Competence in this.....

FTA:

In the aftermath, Secretary of State Clinton sought to take responsibility for the security lapses at Benghazi and expressed personal regret.[66] However, in her January 2013 testimony before Congress, Secretary Clinton claimed security decisions at the Benghazi compound had been made by others, stating, "The specific security requests pertaining to Benghazi ... were handled by the security professionals in the [State] Department. I didn't see those requests, I didn't approve them, I didn't deny them."[67]

Except for the minor problem that she was talking about the attack having been planned independently by then, as came up in the "hearing" aka witch hunt yesterday. To quote our future president: "I am sorry it (the fact) doesn't fit your narrative."

Actually, there are substantial discrepancies between the official account of the attack and what Guardian reporter Chris Stephen observed and reconstructed. I've never seen them addressed. And keep in mind this is the Guardian, not some right wing rag out to get Hillary.

What's particularly frightening is that it is significantly worse than anything ever seen in the EPAC before, so the Mexicans mostly will not have prepared for a storm of this severity. Neighborhoods supposedly safe from surge will be flooded. Buildings built to withstand the worst possible hurricane (supposedly) will come down. Plus, it came on so fast there's no time. When people went to bed there last night it was nothing like this.

Did anyone at any off these Hearings ask HRC why there was a need for a Ambassador in Benghazi in the First Place? Or would that scratch the Bipartisan Weapons Smuggling to Syria, aka Classified NatSec Wormcan?

It turns out to have been related to some CIA operations, possibly trying to recover heavy weaponry from various unpleasant Libyan groups. Previous investigations have managed to out a CIA operative discussing this in public, so no further public discussion on this.

I think she answered that in the presidential debate. Libya was (and is) a fractured country. Benghazi was (and is) the defacto capital for one of the main sets of players in the shambles that is LIbya. Caveat: I don't understand Libyian politics which may be even more confusing than Syrian politics.

Well, that seems to be what Seymour Hersh tells us. And every whistleblower in the Pentagon, CIA et all probably has Hersh on speed dial. I have no doubt about Hersh's integrity and I'm certain that he investigates the tales he's told s best he can. But he's also in a position where it'd be easy to feed him a load of complete fabrication and he might not be able to prove or disprove its validity.

Anyway, here's the link Pulitzer-Prize Winning Reporter Sy Hersh: Benghazi Is a HUGE Scandal ... But Not For the Reason You Think Washington's Blog

Fair Econimist is closer to it. US Embassys are Legal CIA Outposts in the First Place...

Absolutely. Virtually every embassy and consolate for every nation anywhere in the world probably has intelligence officers on staff -- some covert, some not. But in the case of Benghazi, I believe there was also a "Secret" (i.e. everyone except the American public knew about it) CIA facility a few miles away.

Strongest Hurricane Ever Recorded

We've only been measuring hurricanes since WWII,

And? Facepalm

It's pretty clear the CIA was involved in Benghazi somehow, simply because the Republicans outed a CIA operative in the course of their "investigations". I agree, it's not a good idea to pay too much attention to the story of what the CIA was actually doing. Most likely there was more than one thing going on anyway.

I don't have time to deal with this properly, but there was a thread at Angy Bear (I think) many years ago that dealt with the fact that the IQ curve isn't actually a normal (gaussian) distribution and has been fudged to make it look more like a normal curve. Which means you really shouldn't compare older IQ scores with newer ones because they aren't measuring the same thing in the same way.

Not sure that's relevant. But it might be.

I have to get moving and get to the store or the family doesn't eat this wekend.
